Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May. It is celebrated to honor the soldiers who died while serving for the country. It is federal holiday in United States. It originated after the American Civil War as it claimed more lives than any other conflict in the country. Memorial Day is also referred as Decoration Day and it marks the start of the summer season. Memorial Day is for remembering the soldiers who sacrificed their lives while serving for the US military. People gather together to visit cemeteries and memorials. Memorial Day should not be confused with Veterans day as memorial day is for remembering the people who died while serving for the country whereas Veterans day is celebrated for services of all US military veterans. On Memorial Day people decorate the National cemeteries and place flowers and the American flags on every grave. It is a tradition to decorate and place flowers on grave and join Parades on Memorial Day. Many cities and town organize parades and other activities for people to participate.

People gather and discuss the stories and remember the men and women who died while serving for the country. This day is often referred as a tribute to people who died in United States Military services. This year Memorial Day is on Monday 29, May.

He’s dead alone who lacks her light!

With the tears a Land hath shed

Their graves should ever be green.

They have renounced what are accounted pleasures and cheerfully.

Undertaken all the self-denials privations, toils, dangers,

Sufferings, sicknesses, mutilations, life…

Lord Jesus Christ, Today we honor the memory of those men and women

who have given their lives for their compatriots

in the cause of freedom.

They have worked, fought & died

Four the heritage of liberty, brotherhood, and honor

that they have passed on to us.

Best Sayings Of Happy Memorial Day For US Army

I would rather be remembered by a song than by a victory.

What’s right about America is that although we have a mess of problems, we have the great capacity– intellect and resources– to do something about them

Henry Ford

Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.

President Harry S. Truman

“Freedom is the last, best hope of earth.” Lincoln steered the country through the Civil War, saved the Union and ended slavery. Who better to define freedom for us?”

“There is nothing wrong with America that the faith, love of freedom, intelligence, and energy of her citizens can not cure.”

Dwight David Eisenhower

“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived”

General George S. Patton

“I don’t have to tell you how fragile this precious gift of freedom is. Every time we hear, watch, or read the news, we are reminded that liberty is a rare commodity in this world.”

President Ronald Reagan

I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did.

Benjamin Harrison, 23rd President of the United States

“It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the organizer, Who gave us the freedom to demonstrate

It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag.

And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the flag.”

Father Dennis Edward O’Brien, USMC

They are dead, but they live in each Patriot’s breast,

And their names are engraved on honor’s bright crest.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

And they who for their country die shall fill an honored grave, for glory lights the soldier’s tomb, and beauty weeps the brave.

“Blessed is the match consumed in kindling flame. Blessed is the flame that burns in the secret fastness of the heart. Blessed is the heart with strength to stop its beating for honor’s sake. Blessed is the match consumed in kindling flame.”

Hannah Senesh

The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender or submission.

The contribution made by the soldiers in bringing freedom to America is beyond expression. Let us thank them for their courage and promise to follow the legacy.
